Principal Update

Thursday 6th March
Last week we held our community BBQ and working bee Friday after school. This was a great chance to connect, enjoy a sausage and tidy up the school grounds. It was great to see mums and dads and students all pitching in to help. Most of the work was done in the greenspace with two trailer loads of garden waste removed. Thanks to the following families for their time, effort and energy making the school look fantastic – Coxhead, Spencer, Cannell, Hesketh, Wilson, Elith, Zollo, Wall, Pearce, Jimenez-Jones, Benjamin-Baxter and Lonard families. It was nice having our staff in attendance too on the BBQ.
School/community involvement
As you know we are always wanting to attract new enrolments and welcome new families to the MCPS community. Our free Messy Playgroup for children aged 1 - 5 years (all children are welcome, but activities will focus on this age group) is an opportunity for families to come and enjoy a chat, while the messy activities are taken care of by Kate W and Jacinta. It was great to see some new families in attendance this morning.
This Playgroup will run every Thursday of the school term, from 9:30. We will meet in the hall at the school. Please note an adult is required to supervise your child during the session.
Our next open morning, from 9:30 , will be on Wednesday 26 March. Where we will invite hopefully new and existing families to come along and see the school in action. You may have seen this advertised in the local paper and through Facebook.
Staffing Update
We are communicating that Jane De Lorenzo will be expecting her first child in July. This is wonderfully exciting for Jane and her partner Corey.
At this stage we anticipate that Jane will commence maternity leave in early June and we will by then have in place a classroom teacher. We will plan to have some time to ensure a smooth and thorough transition takes place.
We will keep you informed of any relevant information but for now feel free to congratulate Jane when you next see her.
Nicole Leary has been an integral part of the MCPS over the past decade working at our Preschool, as an ES supporting students in the classroom or in the office on Fridays. Nicole has been working 4 days at Narre Warren North PS and from next term will be full time there. We will acknowledge her contribution towards the end of term.
Congratulations
Last week we had Ava, Ayla, Eilidh and Maya represent MCPS at the EDEC swimming carnival at the Lilydale Pool. By winning their 4 x 50m freestyle relay event they have qualified them for the Divisional Dandenong Ranges swimming carnival in Croydon on Monday. Good luck
House Athletics
Well done to our Year 3 – 6 students and staff who enjoyed our annual House Sports day yesterday. A big acknowledgement to our staff and some parent helpers to ensure a smooth day was had. It is always a nice day and we managed to avoid the heat. Some of students will be going through to the EDEC Athletics which is a great achievement. The results will be announced at tomorrow’s assembly.
School Council for 2025
At last night’s AGM we thanked our last School Council and said farewell to Jessie Evans, Chico Wall, Victoria Butcher, Dan Lonard and Danielle Pearce.
We elected the following positions:
President – Ben Shannon
Vice President and Treasurer – Rowan Coxhead
Secretary – Kate Keys
Attendance
We are focusing on having our students attending every day.
Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day – missing school puts them behind.
These tables illustrate what increased absence adds up to.
