Piggery Grower Unit - Miss Davenport
It’s been a busy and exciting week down at the grower unit as students rolled up their sleeves to prepare for the first batch of all-in, all-out weaning!!
They’ve been hard at work moving growers, vaccinating, loading finishers, and giving the weaner shed a deep clean ... all in time for the 140 new arrivals this Friday.
Next week, the students focus will shift to helping the weaners settle into their new environment. Students will be making sure they have everything they need, including enrichment, gruel, electrolytes, and a cozy space to ease the transition while staying on top of the daily tasks and welfare checks to ensure our growers are staying happy and healthy!
A huge well done to all the students for making the most of their time at the piggery, gaining valuable hands-on experience and knowledge!
Workshop - Mr Ball
Work continues on the piggery feeders with students' maths skills being tested to measure and cut metal correctly to fit in the odd-shaped spaces! We are just waiting on some more metal to arrive so we can start the next one.
General - Mr West
Mr West and his group have been busy preparing vehicles and equipment ready for the Northwest tour which departs on April 3. It is a big job making sure vehicles are ready, clean and mechanically sound for the journey. General groups have also been busy removing fences in the Piggery Feedlot to give excavators and trucks access to clean out the piggery effluent ponds.
Grains - Mr de Beer and Mr Rice-Fazey
Spreading lime and gypsum is complete. We are now watching the weeds germinate from the recent rains, so spraying will be next on the calendar. This will allow Cert III students to complete a number of observations for their cropping units.
Reminder from Mrs Iles about Weekend Duty
Any Year 12 students who only require one more day on weekend farm duty, can you please come and see me so we can organise to get as many Year 12s finished in Term 2 as we can. If you are rostered on to weekend duty, but you only need to do one day and know someone who is willing to take over your second day, please let me know.
