It has been a busy few weeks in the Class area with assessments in every subject. Some students have also sat their writing, reading and numeracy OLNA. These students should be congratulated for their efforts in the tests as well as their efforts in attending additional support sessions both during the school day and in evening prep. Thanks also to Mrs Packham and Mr Chao for all their hard work in supporting these students. Results for the OLNA will be available before the end of term.

Tales from the English Room

With Mrs Packham and Her Amazing Students!

It’s been a fun and full-on term in the English room! The students have been diving into all sorts of interesting texts, getting stuck into discussions, and showing off their creative and analytical skills with some fantastic assessments.

Our Year 11s kicked things off with The Art of Persuasion. Students explored a mix of persuasive feature articles and blog posts, looking at how writers use language to influence their audience. They’ve already completed two assessments. First up, they analysed a persuasive text and answered short questions to show how well they understood the techniques being used. Then they had a go at writing their own persuasive feature article on a topic they felt strongly about. It’s been great to see their critical thinking come through and their voices shine in their writing.

At the same time, our Year 12s have been working through a unit called Once Upon a Time. They’ve been reading a range of fictional extracts to see how authors use language to create meaning and connect with readers. Their first assessment involved analysing the techniques in a piece of fiction, and for the second, they got to tap into their creative side and write their own short story or interpretive text. Using a picture prompt or a quote for inspiration, they brought some really imaginative and thoughtful ideas to life.

Both groups have really stepped up this term, and it’s been awesome watching their confidence grow. I’m super proud of the effort and enthusiasm they’ve shown in every lesson!
