School Picnic

WHOLE SCHOOL PICNIC RECOUNT

Last Friday it was the school picnic, and it was awesome. The school picnic happens every year to get along with your family. At the school picnic you can buy stuff such as Cookies, Icy Poles, Drumsticks, Juice boxes and Face painting.

Firstly, we did a bean bag race with my friends. I was second the first time but after I was first. There were four colours which were red, yellow, green, and purple. In the bean bag race I fell twice making me second. After I got a juice box, it was refreshing. Then I got a drumstick. It was as cold as Antarctica.

Lastly, we ate some food. My dad had bought hotdogs to eat. They were delicious. As I ate my final bites I decided to go guess the lollies. I never won but it was fine.

On Friday the 7th of March, the whole school had a picnic.

The exciting activities that you could do were soccer, tug of war, photo booth & many other fun activities. My favourite activity was soccer because you could choose who you play against.

I got a Zooper Dooper & a delicious juice box.

The HUB has opened for 2025!

At Deer Park West the HUB is a wonderful space where students can come to exchange the PACs that they have earned for being respectful, being a learner and being safe here at school.

Pride in Achievement cards (PACs) were introduced with the aim of improving behaviour-related decision making as well as encouraging students to focus on our school rules and values.

Cards can be given to students by any member of staff (not just their classroom teacher) as we are all on the lookout for students demonstrating expected behaviours at DPWPS.

Students from all year levels have now had their first opportunity to visit the HUB in it’s new location. (Room 12)

Parents, please note that if your child comes home with an item from the HUB, for example with a Lego set, this is because your child has worked hard to earn this.

Don’t forget to talk to your child about their PACs and share in the excitement!

GAWA (1A) saved his PACs for more than a year to reach a 100 PACs. He exchanged them for LEGO. Well done, Gawa!

'Where the Wild Things Are' display

Deer Park West's amazing whole school mural for 2025 is now complete. The theme for the mural (which is located in the library) is "Where the Wild Things Are".

Students worked extremely hard on learning how to layer oil pastels, blending and selecting hues from the same colour family to create amazing individual pieces. Additionally, they were taught how to create Zentangle patterns, which they then scratched back into the oil pastel they had layered. All these individual pieces were then combined to create different elements of the mural.  From stars to monsters, sunsets to aquatic depths, and grass to trees, I am sure you will agree that our artistic students have done an incredible job.

We would love families to pop into the library next time they are passing by to admire the work by our talented DPW students. Please see office staff if you would like to have a look.
