This term, our Year 5/6 students have been diving deep into the topic of migration, exploring the various push and pull factors that influence why people leave their home countries or choose to settle in new places.
Through our humanities studies and our class novel, Boy Overboard, which tells the moving story of a family escaping Afghanistan, students have developed a thoughtful understanding of the crucial differences between migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.
As part of this unit, students conducted interviews with real-world migrants and are currently turning those personal experiences into narrative stories.
Alongside this, students have been analysing the iconic illustrations and writing styles of the Mr Men book series.
Each student is currently creating their own original Mr. Men character and story, and we look forward to sharing their finished books with our younger students at the end of the term!
