Book Week 2026 📚

Monday 24 - Friday 18 August (Week 6)

Book Week is approaching, and it is a chance to celebrate books, libraries, and the joy of reading. 

The theme for Book Week this year is: Symphony of Stories!

Book Week Schedule

Monday 24 August - Whole School Parade @ 8:55am

Students and Staff are invited to dress up as a favourite book character on this day. Parents are invited to stay and watch. There will be a coffee van available for parents to purchase from.

Guidelines for dressing up are:

1. Identifiable book character - we encourage students to bring the book or a copy of the cover with them on the day.
2. Students are expected to wear their usual school uniform, if not in costume.
3. Be creative with your costumes! We strongly encourage getting creative with items you already have at home.

Tuesday 25 August

Visiting author Mike Lucas will be sharing with the students how to turn ideas into stories. 

We hope that Book Week will encourage reading at home as well as at school, so that we can all share in the joy of books and reading!

Students enjoyed connecting with others and making new friends on our 4th annual Friendship Day

Following the Friendship day workshops, we celebrated our 4th annual Friendship Day. This day is focused on celebrating friendship, connection, kindness and belonging across our school community. 

This year’s Friendship Day song, “A Friend Like You”, was written by Mr Brockbank and taught to students throughout the day, with Mr Brockbank introducing the song and actions alongside Mrs Shahrooei. 

The day culminated in a special finale where our students came together to perform the song alongside our ELC friends.

The students particularly enjoyed being together with other students and taking part in the fun Friendship Day activities. 

For some, the highlight was the recess and lunch dance party! 

When we asked them a little more about why they enjoyed it, it was clear that it wasn't just the dancing, it was the opportunity to have fun with friends, connect with others and even make new friendships along the way.

The key message we hope students take away from the day is that we all have a part to play in building friendships based on kindness, trust, respect and inclusion. 

As we learn from URSTRONG's Friendology program, friendships aren’t always perfect. 

Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we disagree, and sometimes we need to work things out. 

What matters is that we keep choosing kindness, talking things through, looking out for one another and making sure others feel welcome.

As the song says, “We can have each other’s back, and respect keeps us on track.” 

Four important friendship facts. 

1. No friendship (relationship) is perfect
2. Every friendship is different
3. Trust and respect are the two most important qualities in a friendship.
4. Friendships change, and that's ok

More than just a game

At Emmaus, we see sport as an opportunity for every student to have a go, develop new skills and experience a sense of belonging. 

This term, we have continued to broaden the sporting experiences available to our students. 

• Foundation - Year 2, students have been introduced to Tennis, with many holding a racquet for the first time and developing skills such as safe racquet handling and hand-eye coordination. 
• Year 3 - 6 students have been developing their Netball skills, building their technique and their ability to work together as a team.

The recent SACSA Netball competition was a wonderful example of this.

• Our 5/6 Boys and Girls teams - 2nd  🥈

Just as pleasing was the encouragement and support shown by our parent supporters, many of whom took time away from work to support their children and their teams.

Watching students celebrate one another, encourage their teammates and represent Emmaus with such enthusiasm was a real highlight.

Importantly, our approach to sport is not simply about winning. 

• We want every student, regardless of their ability or confidence, to feel that they belong and can experience success. 
• During lessons, students regularly move between groups, allowing them to learn alongside different peers, challenge themselves, and support and encourage one another.
• Sport is for everyone. It provides opportunities to learn, connect, challenge ourselves and, importantly, belong. 

Our hope is that through sport, every student can find something they enjoy, experience encouragement from others, and develop the confidence to have a go, even when something is new or challenging.

The Premier's Reading Challenge

The Premier's Reading Challenge is coming to an end and all forms are due back to the Library by the 4th of September.

The challenge requires students to read 12 books to complete the challenge - 8 PRC books, and 4 free choice.
