Leadership Report

As winter settles in and illness becomes more prevalent, both students and teachers are looking forward to the upcoming holidays. You may have noticed our teachers looking a bit weary. They have been working tirelessly on finalising your child’s school reports, a task that significantly adds to their already substantial workload. Despite this, they continue to manage a welcoming smile each day.

Our Reception teachers welcomed their new students on Monday, 16th June. These Reception students will start their Magill School journey at the beginning of Term 3.

Our Year Six leaders ensured the new students and their families felt welcomed and had a positive first experience at our school. One of Magill School’s strengths is a strong sense of community, and our older students take pride in supporting the junior primary children with activities like transition visits, and the Play at Lunchtimes (PALs) program.

The new Receptions will have a follow-up visit on Monday, 23rd June.

Pedal Prix Competition

In other news, Magill School participated in the Pedal Prix Competition after Norwood International High School invited students to a ‘Come and Try' day recently. It was the first time since 2010 that Magill was out on the Pedal Prix track.

Sting 2 - Orlando, Anna, Charlotte, Livinu, Aji, and Sophie (absent) made their way through the field to finish first in their category.

Sting 1 - Leonardo, Blake, Ralf, Ewin, Joshua, Thenuja, Ugar, and Jentezen – delivered a strong performance, finishing in the top 10 against some tough and experienced competition.

Summary of the Day

By Charlotte - F3

Norwood International High School’s Pedal Prix team invited students from Magill School to a Come and Try at Victoria Park. I was interested as my brother attends Norwood International and is involved in pedal prix. Come and Try occurred over two weekends; approximately 15 students from Magill signed up for the competition. Anna and I were the only girls representing Magill School.

There were a number of primary schools present on the day, and the atmosphere was exciting. Pop-up tents were set up for teams to gather under, orange barriers were placed around the track itself to keep people safe, and a bridge going over the track allowed people to cross safely.

Norwood High School students led and supported Magill’s teams. Orlando from our team started the race. The seats of pedal prix trikes are adjustable to match your height and are altered for each person racing. Competitors must wear special shoes that clip into the pedals, so your feet do not slip. Magill was at the back as it was our first time on the track in fifteen years. Each team member had to try to complete a minimum of 10 laps in a half hour stint but could do more in that time if fast enough. Over the day there were two separate races. I loved it!

Individual prizes were awarded to the fastest rider in each category. First place from our category went to a student from another school, but I came second overall, something I am very proud of!

And what about our teams? Well, the other Magill team finished up in 8th place, and our team came first! Magill School was awarded a certificate and a glass plaque. Each rider received a medal.

I loved every part of the day and will join Pedal Prix in high school next year. I hope Magill enters this competition again next year.

Final Word from Erica...

What a wonderful opportunity for year six students. It sounds like everyone had a fabulous time, and one filled with joy and engagement for everyone involved. A big thank you to Ben O'Connell for having Magill on board this year.

In keeping with this spirit of excitement, we are pleased to announce that our new play spaces, located at the edge of the primary oval, are set to open before the end of this term.

Students have been actively involved in observing and commenting on each stage of the development, and many are eagerly anticipating the chance to explore these new areas.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Magill School community for their generosity and to everyone who has contributed to our annual fundraising events. Your support is invaluable.

As we approach the final two weeks of the term, we kindly remind you to keep your child at home if they are unwell. Stay warm and take care!
