NSW Space Discovery Program Showcase

On June 10, our student team, The Magstronauts, took part in the NSW Space Discovery Program in Sydney, sharing their innovative ideas and showcasing their 3D printed designs to a wide audience.

Throughout the day, both groups presented their space solutions with confidence, clarity, and enthusiasm. One Magstronaut group explored ways to reduce the risk of cancer in astronauts. The other focused on helping astronauts feel more comfortable and relaxed during long missions in space. As they discussed their ideas and presented their 3D printed prototypes, they communicated their thinking clearly and thoughtfully to students from across the state and professionals from the space industry.

The Magstronauts who were unable to attend in Sydney still played an important role, participating back at school via video call and staying fully engaged throughout the event. The day was a great opportunity to collaborate, learn from others and engage with real-world experts. Their teamwork, problem solving and presentation skills were on full display, and they represented our school community with pride.

Year 6 Mathematics Mastery in Action

Over the past few weeks, Year 6 students have been engaging in a new approach to Mathematics through the implementation of targeted Mastery Sessions. As part of this initiative, both Year 6 classes were strategically grouped to facilitate differentiated instruction and a deeper exploration of key mathematical concepts.

These sessions have provided students with the opportunity to explore both foundational and more advanced areas of Mathematics, with an emphasis on developing conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills. Through rich mathematical discussions, hands-on experiences with concrete materials and the use of multiple problem solving strategies, students have been able to make meaningful connections between abstract concepts and real-world applications.

The focused nature of the sessions has not only enhanced student confidence but also fostered a collaborative learning environment where reasoning, reflection, and mathematical language are at the forefront. It has been rewarding to see students actively engage in refining their understanding and applying new knowledge in purposeful and practical ways.

Gymnastics Co-Curricular

Over the last couple of weeks, students were invited to attend the gymnastics grading sessions in which they were able to showcase their skill level. This year’s Gymnastics Co-Curricular program runs for the remainder of Term 2 and during Term 3, culminating in a gymnastics competition on Sunday 14 September, providing an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their progress and skills.

The program will be led by our experienced coaches, Melissa Coburn and Emma Carmody and supported by registered volunteers and experienced secondary students.

Early Stage 1 Assembly

This week, two students from each Kindergarten class were recognised with a ‘Kindergarten Superstar’ award at the Stage Assembly. These awards celebrate a range of positive qualities, including kindness, enthusiasm, creativity and a love of learning. Congratulations to our superstars: Donovan Barry, Edwina Marshall, Patty Young, Quill Pascoe, Tahndi Pilmore and Bernie Eeles.

In the playground, our Kinder students have been making the most of the fresh sand in the sandpit, creating castles, digging tunnels and enjoying imaginative play during recess and lunch.

It’s been a wonderful week of fun and celebration in Kindergarten!

Stage 1 Assembly

At the Stage 1 Assembly, Class 2B confidently took on the role of hosts, proudly showcasing their learning and achievements. They began by celebrating Miss Briggs’s recent success at the Melbourne International Horse Trials, sharing highlights from the event and expressing their pride in her accomplishment. The students then presented their science learning, explaining their investigations into materials and their properties.

They clearly explained how different materials are selected for their strength, flexibility or waterproof qualities, and provided examples from their recent experiments.

The assembly was a wonderful display of 2B’s enthusiasm, teamwork, and growing confidence in public speaking. Congratulations 2B! Congratulations to the students below who received their Stage 1 Super Star Award at the assembly.

Stage 2 Assembly

Stage 2 gathered for an assembly on Wednesday morning. Our hosts, Eva Michael and Noah Davidson from 4B, did a fantastic job leading the event. The Year 3 classes shared fascinating facts about dingoes and ways we can help protect them. Students from 4A presented information they had researched to write biographies of famous individuals, while 4B showcased the colourful posters they had created in Maths to explore 2D shapes. Citizenship awards were then presented to nominated students, and we wrapped up the assembly with a fun round of Spot the Match. We’re already looking forward to our next Stage 2 Assembly!

The Fairy Garden

“We made a Fairy home to help the fairies because it is winter, and they can get cold, so we are helping them. It all started at the playground. We called it Potato Land and during the weekend, it got wrecked. So, we decided to move it to the tree, and it worked. So, if you see a fairy garden, please don’t wreck it. Please help the fairies.”

Primary Semester 1 Reports

Our dedicated teaching staff have been busy completing the Semester 1 individual student reports. These reports show the progress students have made in all their subjects for Term 1 and Term 2. Personalised comments are provided for Pastoral Care, English and Mathematics. The reports can be accessed via SEQTA Engage at the end of the school day on Thursday 27 June. To view your child’s individual report, you are required to log into your SEQTA Engage portal.

If you experience difficulties, accessing SEQTA Engage, please contact our IT help desk at help@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au. Our IT staff will be happy to assist you with this process.

University of Melbourne (UOM) Psychology Clinic

Our School has been fortunate for many years to utilise the professional services of the UOM Psychology Clinic. Dr Chelsea Hyde, the clinic manager and her team are scheduled to visit Moama Anglican Grammar from Monday 16 June until Wednesday 18 June to conduct educational psychology assessment services for selected students.

The regional clinic provides educational assessment services to communities in regional Victoria. Psychological assessments are conducted by provisional psychologists who are currently undertaking advanced training in the Master of Educational Psychology program at the University of Melbourne. All services are closely supervised by a team of lecturers and highly experienced registered psychologists, all of whom hold endorsement in educational and developmental psychology and registration as supervisors with the Psychology Board of Australia. The clinic offers psycho-educational assessments for children and adolescents which produce a profile of cognitive and academic strengths and weaknesses. If you have any questions about this service, please contact me via email ndeller@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au.

Message from the Office

As we are nearing the end of Term, we have many uniform items in lost property without student names on them, making it difficult to reunite these with their rightful owners. If your child is missing anything, please encourage them to visit our lost property in the Primary School Office.
