St Mary’s Rugby League Teams Shine in Cowboys Challenge

Both of St Mary’s rugby league teams made it to the grand finals of the Cowboys Rugby League Challenge — an outstanding achievement!

The Open team were crowned champions after a strong victory over Djarragun College. The boys played exceptionally well, with Ben Buttigieg scoring two tries, Sanjiv Mongar and Josh Rolland making impressive metres in attack, and Jack Daniels delivering solid defence throughout the game. Jack was deservedly named Man of the Match!

Huge congratulations to the team, and heartfelt thanks to Mr Slatcher, Mr Winter, and Mr Tutoe for their dedication and hard work in coaching the boys this semester. A special thank you also to Kelly, who served as the Level 1 Trainer for both teams.

The U15 boys also put in a tremendous effort in their grand final match at Barlow Park against Smithfield State High School. Despite a close contest and a determined performance, they narrowly lost to Smithfield. Max Daniels was recognised for his outstanding efforts and named Man of the Match.

Well done to all involved — you’ve made the College proud!

Mountain Biking

Term 2 saw the exciting introduction of Mountain Biking into the College’s sports program. Over the past six weeks, students have explored a variety of trails, developing their skills and confidence. Highlights have included a visit to Cairns BMX, attending the Crankworx event, and, most recently, riding the renowned Smithfield mountain bike tracks!

AFL Gala Days

St Mary’s proudly participated in three AFL Gala Days this term. All students competed with outstanding effort and positive attitudes, demonstrating great teamwork and communication throughout each event.

A big thank you to Mr Podolczak for his time and dedication in preparing the teams. Congratulations to Tom Hession, who was named MVP of the Senior AFL Gala Day — a fantastic achievement!
