Grade Two

The term is off to a wonderful start with lots of fun and exciting things planned for Term 3. We are ready for all the exciting adventures that the second semester will bring. A warm welcome to all the new students and families who have joined Oatlands this term.

During English students have been learning all about persuasive writing. They’ve been learning how to express their personal opinions clearly and support them with strong and convincing reasons. From discussing whether dogs make better pets than cats to deciding if school uniforms are a good idea, students have had fun sharing their points of view!

In Maths we’ve been strengthening our understanding of place value focusing on reading, writing and ordering 3 and 4 digit numbers. Students have been using number lines, MAB blocks and place value charts to help them compare and organise numbers with confidence.

We are now beginning to explore multiplication and division with a focus on learning and using different strategies to solve problems. Whether it’s drawing arrays, skip counting, using fact families or sharing equally, students are discovering that there are many ways to find an answer. It’s great to see them becoming more confident and flexible thinkers when working with numbers!

This term our Integrated Studies unit is all about sustainability. We’ve started exploring the 6Rs – Reduce, Refuse, Repurpose, Reuse, Rot and Recycle and students have been full of questions and wonderings about how we can better care for our environment.

To help we've introduced Nude Food Tuesdays, encouraging students to bring lunches without packaging to help reduce the amount of rubbish coming into our school. It's been a great start and we look forward to seeing even more waste-free lunches in the weeks ahead!

We’re also counting down to our exciting excursion to CERES on Thursday of Week 4. We can’t wait to explore, learn and gather even more ideas about how we can make a difference for our environment.

Thank you again for all your support.

Warm regards,

The Grade 2 Team
