Grade One

All Grade 1 students have made a fantastic start to the term, settling back into classroom routines with growing independence and enthusiasm. It’s been lovely hearing about the joyful adventures many students enjoyed over the holidays and even more special to see their excitement as they reunite with friends.

Thank you to all families who attended our recent parent-teacher interviews. It was a pleasure to connect and discuss student progress and celebrate the learning journey so far.

Mathematics

In Mathematics we have begun exploring Place Value. Over the coming weeks, students will take part in open-ended tasks that build their understanding through partitioning, renaming, addition and subtraction. Using concrete materials and hands-on learning, students will strengthen their mental maths skills and deepen their ability to reason and solve problems in different ways

English:

In Writing we have begun learning about narratives. Students are building their understanding of story structure, including characters, setting, and plot, and will begin crafting their own imaginative stories.

In Reading we are focusing on fiction texts. Students are practising five-finger retells to help summarise what they’ve read, and continuing to make predictions and share their responses with their peers.

Integrated Studies & RRRR (Respectful Relationships) This term in Integrated Studies, our focus is Sustainability. Students are learning about the responsibility we all share in caring for our planet. We’ll be exploring ways to reduce waste, reuse materials and recycle more effectively while reflecting on how even small changes can make a big difference.

In RRRR we’ve been learning strategies for managing emotions, staying calm and facing challenges with a positive mindset.

We're so proud of the way our Grade 1 students have started Term 3 and look forward to another wonderful term of learning, growth and connection.
