Prep

Welcome to Term 3 Oatlands families!

Throughout this term the Prep community will be participating in so many exciting activities to extend current knowledge and inspire new learnings. We are looking forward to introducing new topics and will revisit previous concepts to encourage mastery and confidence. Our focus will be on nurturing a love of learning and encouraging curiosity. We will also continue to build greater resilience and independence in their daily routines.

Here are some fun things to look forward to in the Prep classrooms…

In Integrated we will be exploring a unit of work on ‘Discovery’. This is an exciting theme designed to spark curiosity, imagination and a sense of wonder about the world around them. Through this unit, the students will learn how discoveries - big and small - help us grow, solve problems and understand new ideas.

In English, we will be diving into narrative writing. This concept encourages students to use their imagination to write about characters, settings, problems and solutions. Over multiple lessons, students will design characters to write about, learn descriptive words to describe settings, and brainstorm problems that may occur in stories.

In Maths we are currently extending students' prior knowledge of place value. This is a fundamental concept in early mathematics and lays the groundwork for more complex skills like addition, subtraction and problem solving.

Throughout the year thus far we have also been counting our days of school. In our classrooms each day students have been representing the number of school days in various ways such as in written and number form, tally marks, unifix, popsicle sticks and money. The excitement was overflowing through the prep cohort when we recently achieved this milestone - enjoy some pictures from the day!
