Year 4 News

Who We Are – New Unit of Inquiry

This term, Year 4 students have launched into an exciting new Unit of Inquiry: Who We Are. We are exploring the fascinating ways our bodies are made up of interconnected systems that must be maintained to keep us healthy. So far, students have dipped their toes into learning about the skeletal, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems, discovering how each plays a vital role in keeping us alive and well.

Over the coming weeks, each student will select one body system—or a specific part of a system—to research in depth. They will investigate how their chosen system works, strategies for keeping it healthy, and how it connects and works together with other systems in the body. Students will share their findings in an oral presentation to their class, developing both their knowledge and communication skills.

Save The Date

This learning will continue to build towards our Showcase on Wednesday 10 September, where students will present their research and insights to our school community. Parents are invited to join us from 9:15 am to 10:00 am for the Showcase, where they can explore and celebrate all the wonderful work the students have been doing. We can’t wait to see the creative and informative ways they share their understanding of the human body!

Parent Visits – Sharing Expertise in Health

It was wonderful to have Julia visit Year 4 and share her experiences as a nurse. Julia’s wealth of knowledge and engaging approach had the students captivated, especially as they acted out a variety of first aid scenarios. This hands-on experience not only sparked curiosity but also supported our new Who We Are Unit of Inquiry, where we are learning about the body’s systems and how to keep them healthy.

A big thank you to Julia for generously giving her time and expertise. We also extend our thanks in advance to the other parents who have volunteered to share their knowledge in their health field—the students are already excited for your visits!

Fractions and Decimals

This term, students are exploring how to convert between fractions and decimals, and discovering the important connection these have to percentages. Through hands-on activities and real-life examples, they are learning how these concepts link together and how they can be applied in everyday situations.

Pen Licences

During recent Year 4 assemblies, many students have proudly received their pen licences. This achievement reflects their dedication to developing neat, fluent, and consistent handwriting. All Year 4 students are working hard towards this milestone, and we look forward to celebrating more pen licence recipients in the coming weeks.

Carlton Respects – Reflection

Year 4 students have all enjoyed an engaging visit from Carlton AFLW players as part of the ‘Carlton Respects’ program. Through the fun ‘Crippa Says’ game and interactive role plays, students explored emotions, recognising comfortable and uncomfortable feelings, and learning positive ways to respond. The activities also encouraged inclusivity and respectful behaviour both in and out of the classroom.
