Partner Reading in Year 2 – Building Skills Together
In Year 2, the students have been exploring an exciting new way to boost reading skills – partner reading. Each week, students have been trialling partner reading activities linked to their weekly spelling focus. This approach not only helps students practise reading fluently but also reinforces the correct spelling and use of their focus words in context.
Partner reading is a powerful learning strategy. Reading aloud to a partner builds confidence, encourages expression, and helps students hear and see new words in action. Listening to a partner read also develops comprehension skills and exposes students to different reading styles and strategies.
Our Year 2 students have embraced the challenge, supporting each other with tricky words, giving helpful feedback, and celebrating each other’s successes. It has been wonderful to see how this simple yet effective strategy has strengthened not just their spelling and reading, but also their teamwork and communication skills.
We are looking forward to continuing our partner reading journey and seeing our students’ confidence and skills grow week by week.
