Grade 6

Year 6
The last two weeks have been nothing short of hectic in Grade 6!!
With student-free days, King’s Birthday public holidays, excursions and Athletics Day (Take 2!), it’s been one change to our normal schedule after another!!
Maths
We have finished our math focus on decimals (for now), all teachers agree that we have noticed significant improvement in this area which normally brings trepidation and a lack of confidence. Students seem to be more enthusiastic about explaining the place value of decimal numbers and are beginning to look at the connections between decimals, fractions and percentages- this will be revisited in term four.
Over the next two weeks, we will be investigating ‘Patterns’ in number sequences. Recognising and understanding patterns lays the foundation for algebra by helping students identify relationships and formulate general rules
Reading
In our reading lessons, we are focusing on Jackie French's Fire, Flood, Drought, and Cyclone as core texts. These books not only enhance students' comprehension and analysis of figurative language and imagery but also seamlessly integrate with our geography unit by providing insights into the impact of natural disasters on Australian communities.
Writing
These texts have also been our poetic muses this term! Their rhythmic verses and vivid imagery have inspired students to delve into the art of poetry, exploring techniques like personification and similes. By analysing French's lyrical style, students have crafted their own poems, capturing the emotions and forces of nature in their words.
