Grade 4

Literacy
Grade 4 students have been reading The Arrival by Shaun Tan, using its powerful visuals to explore the emotional journey of immigration. Without any written words, the book invites them to interpret the story through the detailed illustrations, helping them build empathy and a deeper understanding of what it might feel like to leave one’s home for a new, unfamiliar place. As they discuss the main character’s challenges—like language barriers, cultural differences, and finding a new community—students are developing their ability to think critically and compassionately about the immigrant experience. This learning ties into their broader inquiry into identity, belonging, and the courage it takes to start over in a new land.
Maths
Grade 4 students have been learning how to collect, organise, and represent data using different types of graphs. They’ve explored how to create bar graphs, column graphs, and pictographs, and are learning to choose the most appropriate graph depending on the type of data they have. Through hands-on activities like surveys and tally charts, they are discovering how graphs can help us understand and compare information more easily. Students are also learning to read and interpret data from graphs, explain what the data shows, and justify their choices when selecting a graph to present their findings clearly and accurately.
Athletics
Athletics Day 2.0 was a hit with the students, who embraced the chilly but sunny weather with big smiles and boundless energy. Rugged up in their house colours, they threw themselves into the events with enthusiasm—literally, in the case of the long jump! From sprints to relays, vortex throws to tug-of-war, the students gave it their all while cheering each other on and celebrating every effort, big or small. The day was full of fun, laughter, and friendly competition, and despite the cold, the energy and team spirit kept everyone warm and moving.
