Grade 3

Literacy

Grade 3 students have enjoyed reading The Huff and Frank’s Red Hat over the last fortnight. They have discussed connections to the text, made predictions and learnt how to summarise a text.

Students have also learnt how to write engaging narratives and completed their own creative piece of writing following a prompt.

In Spelling lessons we have continued learning new spelling rules, as well as some fun rhymes and songs to help us to spell tricky or useful words.

Maths

Our clever Grade Three students have been diving into the exciting world of data and graphs! From asking thoughtful survey questions to collecting information from their classmates, students have taken on the role of real-life data scientists.

Using Google Classroom, each student created their own survey to gather data on topics that mattered to them—like favourite pets, sports, fruits, and even weekend activities! Once they received their responses, they displayed their results clearly and neatly in frequency tables.

But they didn’t stop there! Students then turned their frequency tables into colourful graphs, including:

  • Pictographs (where small pictures represent the number of votes)
  • Bar graphs (with tall bars showing the data)
  • And even line graphs to show changes or trends!

Through this hands-on project, students learned how to ask clear questions, organize their findings, and present their data in creative and accurate ways. It was a fantastic mix of maths, technology, and critical thinking.

Athletics

🏃‍♂️🎉 Grade Three Shine at the Athletics Carnival! 🏅☀️

Last Friday, the sun was shining and so were our amazing Grade Three students as they took part in the rescheduled Athletics Carnival! After all the waiting, excitement was high—and our students certainly didn’t disappoint!

With big smiles, loud cheers and fantastic energy, students gave it their all in a variety of events including:

  • High Jump – where students soared through the air, testing their jumping skills and cheering each other on,
  • Hurdles – showing off their speed, coordination, and determination as they leapt over the hurdles, and
  • Discus – where strong arms and great technique sent the discus flying!

It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm and team spirit, with every student joining in, trying their best, and encouraging their classmates. Whether it was a personal best, a fun attempt, or a loud cheer from the sidelines, every student played a part in making the day a success.

The Athletics Carnival wasn’t just about competition—it was about participation, friendship and fun, and Grade Three showed all of that and more.

Well done to all our superstar athletes! 🎽💪👏
