Student Engagement Spotlight  - Play Leaders in Action

In this edition of our Student Engagement series, we’re proud to highlight the Play Leader Program—a fantastic initiative that builds leadership, responsibility, and connection across year levels at Skye PS.

Each year, a group of Year 6 students are trained to become Play Leaders, running fun and inclusive games for our Prep to Year 3 students in the gym twice a week. These sessions provide a structured and supportive play environment for our younger students, encouraging cooperation, confidence, and social development. The program is overseen by a classroom teacher, ensuring safety and guidance while empowering student-led activity.

The benefits of the Play Leader program extend far beyond the gym. It strengthens cross-age relationships, promotes positive playground behaviour, and gives our senior students a meaningful opportunity to develop their leadership and communication skills. Contributing to the school community in this way helps them build empathy, initiative, and a strong sense of purpose.

It’s a win-win for student engagement and wellbeing!
