What's happening in our classroom?
Literacy
This week we will be finishing our mentor text Leo and Ralph. Students are excited to complete the story together and discover the conclusion this wonderful text. Upon completing the text we will be asking students to reflect on big picture questions such as; the theme of the text, the moral or message and how the main character has grown or changed from the beginning of the story to the end.
In Writing, students will be continuing to plan their narrative story based on our mentor text. We have completed the planning of our problem paragraphs, considering the obstacles that our main character might need to overcome, and now will be planning the resolution and conclusion paragraphs.
Numeracy
Over the next two weeks students will be beginning a unit that focuses on decimals.
As part of this unit we will be exploring:
how to write and represent decimal numbers
placing decimals on a number line
reading and ordering decimals to hundredths
In the upcoming weeks we will also be exploring data in mathematics.
This will include:
identifying and comparing different graphs
how to assess and analyse the factors of a data set
how to select an appropriate data display
Inquiry
This week students began their Inquiry group projects based on our unit 'Our Island Home'. In groups of three students will be creating their own imaginary island country and include information on such things as the island's climate zone, biome, name, flag and national anthem.
Well-being
This term students will be working on:
Positive coping strategies
Positive coping problem solving
Ongoing revision of our 'Ready to learn' plans and how to use our strategies effectively
Term 3 Twisted Science Excursion
To launch our Term Three Inquiry unit, “Types of Forces,” Grade 4 will dive into hands-on science at TwistED Science, Moorabbin on Thursday 24th of July.
Students will:
- explore interactive S.T.E.M. exhibits and make their own discoveries about forces
- take part in a forces-focused workshop designed to extend their knowledge
- gather real-world experiences that will act as a stepping-stone for our classroom learning
This excursion will give students a vibrant, practical introduction to the scientific forces they’ll study throughout the term.
A reminder to families who haven't yet paid or given permission for their child to attend the excursion, can you please do so using the QKR app.
We will also require some parent helpers on the excursion, if you would like to help and available can you please contact your child's teacher. Thank you!
