Literacy
The Prep students have reached an exciting milestone—they have now learned all the letters of the alphabet! To celebrate this wonderful achievement, we held an Alphabet Party, where students enjoyed a fun-filled day of literacy activities and a picnic.
Looking ahead, we are beginning to explore letter combinations. This week, our focus was on the Floss Rule:
When a one-syllable word ends in the letters f, l, or s, we usually double the final letter (e.g., sniff, fall, mess*).
We call this the Floss Rule because the word floss itself follows the rule and contains all three letters—f, l, and s—which helps students remember it.
While this rule applies in many cases, there are a few exceptions, such as if, pal, and has.

Maths
In Mathematics, our Prep students are working on developing their understanding of numbers to 20. Their skills include:
- name, represent and order numbers, including zero to at least 20, using physical and virtual materials and numerals
- quantify and compare collections to at least 20 using counting and explain or demonstrate reasoning
- recognising the order in the sequence of numbers to 20 and identifying the number that is ‘one less’ than a given number and the number that is ‘one more’
- using counting and one-to-one correspondence to quantify the number of items to 20
In Mathematics, students have been exploring the concept of measurement, with a particular focus on comparative language such as tall, short, long, and the same. Looking ahead, the Prep students will begin revising all key mathematical concepts covered throughout Term Two.
Inquiry
To conclude our engaging unit, Great and Small, the Prep students have been designing and constructing their own imaginary animals. They have carefully considered the anatomical features of their creatures and how these adaptations would support survival within their respective habitats. Additionally, students have discussed the dietary habits of their animals, including whether they function as predators or prey.
Wellbeing
During our Wellbeing lessons, students will explore the concepts of friendly and unfriendly decisions. They will learn to recognise the impact of unfair or unkind choices on others. Additionally, students will reflect on their own decision-making processes and consider how their actions affect their peers.

Hair
We have noticed several students with their hair down. In an effort to keep the critters at bay, we kindly ask that you tie up your child’s hair if it falls below their shoulders. Thank you!
Satchels
Each child has a take-home reading book in their satchel, which should be practiced daily along with their Boomerang book. Kindly ensure that the satchel, reading book, and Boomerang book are returned to school each day. Additionally, each child has their login details in their Boomerang book, granting them access to Little Learners Decodable Readers online.
Library
Library Times for TERM THREE have changed for some classes:
Prep C Monday
Prep A & B Tuesday
Prep D & E Thursday
Toileting Before School
Please remind your child to use the toilet before school so that their learning is not interrupted in the morning session.
Spare Clothes
With the wet weather upon us, please ensure your child has a change of clothes, including socks, in their bag. Please label all items with your child’s name. Please supply a plastic bag for any wet items.
Alphabet Party
The children thoroughly enjoyed their Alphabet Party. They engaged in creating alphabet-themed crafts, participated in alphabet games, and shared a delightful picnic lunch in the Prep backyard. The children looked fantastic in their costumes, and the entire school had the opportunity to admire their outfits as the Preps proudly paraded through the classrooms.
