Outdoor Education Adventurers Conquer Bago State Forest!
The end of May saw our intrepid Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh Bronze participants and the Outdoor Education class embark on an exciting and challenging day hike to Paddy's River Dam in the beautiful Bago State Forest. This expedition served as a vital component of both their Duke of Edinburgh award requirements and our school's commitment to hands-on outdoor education.
Despite the crisp, late-autumn air, spirits were high as students laced up their boots, adjusted their packs, and set off from the trailhead. The hike provided an excellent opportunity for students to put their navigation skills to the test as they guided the way through the scenic bushland. Along the trail, they honed their understanding of Leave No Trace principles, ensuring their journey had minimal impact on the natural environment.
Beyond the practical skills, the day was a fantastic exercise in teamwork and resilience. Students supported each other through more challenging sections of the track. Arriving at the tranquil Paddy's River Dam, students were able to enjoy a well-deserved break, refuel with their packed lunches, and reflect on their achievements before the final push back to the buses.
Our students demonstrated remarkable determination, problem-solving abilities, and an admirable appreciation for the outdoors. Experiences like these are invaluable, teaching our young people not only practical skills but also fostering a deeper connection with nature and building confidence in their own capabilities.
A huge congratulations to all the Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh Bronze participants on successfully completing their day hike! We look forward to seeing them continue their adventurous journeys and embrace future challenges.
