District Athletics - Tuesday 5th August
We have 60 students from Grades 3-6 who will be representing the school at the Sandhurst Deborah District Athletics early next term. These students have been selected based on results from our recent Senior School Athletics.
The students have been informed of their selection and information (including consent/payment) can now be found on Compass. A timetable of events will been sent home with the students early next term.
Auslan News
Grade 3-6s have finished their topic on Animals. Grade 3-4s are looking forward to signing their Animal PowerPoints in small groups next week.
All students from Grades 1-6 have been practising Auslan Numbers this week.
Grade 1-2s: Numbers to 20+
Grade 3-4s: Numbers to 100+
Grade 5-6s: Numbers to 1000+
Key things to remember with Number practise:
- We face the back of our hand towards the person we are signing to.
- Number 10 is a flick, and Numbers 11 and 12 are a pinch.
- Numbers in the Teens (13-19) ~ We shake our hand.
- Numbers in the Tens (20-90) ~ We swipe our hand forward.
- There are 2 different signs students can use to show hundreds.
- We apply these rules to sign large numbers into the thousands.
Grades 1-6 will also be revising Auslan Question words to finish the term:
Grades 1-6: Who? – What? – Where? – When? – Why? & Because… – How? – How are you? – How Old?
Additional signs for Grades 3-6: How Many? – How Much? – How Often? – Which?
Grade Preps have also finished their topic on Animals and have completed their Learning Tasks by signing their chosen Farm animal, its colourings and a description of its body. Grade Preps have been learning signs in their new topic of Feelings: I feel… happy – sad – excited – surprised – angry – scared – silly – sleepy – sick – shy – love
The Preps have been representing different emotions in a class mini book of Feelings to sign. They have also read the story of 'Milo Armadillo' by Jan Fearnley and signed the different feelings that characters have experienced at different times throughout the story. Students are learning how important it is to use our facial expression and body language when signing feelings in Auslan.
