Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships:

In our Respectful Relationships lessons, we have been exploring the important skill of asking for help. This week, our focus was on identifying the people in our lives we can turn to for support. Together, we brainstormed and discussed a wide range of trusted individuals from our homes, school, and wider community. These included family members, friends, teachers, school staff and even Teddy! It was wonderful to see every student confidently identify at least one person they feel safe and comfortable talking to when they need help. After this, we reflected on the idea that just as others can support us, we can also be someone who helps others. The students shared thoughtful ideas about how they can offer help to friends, classmates, and family members in everyday situations.

At the beginning of the year, the Grade 5 and 6 students collated ideas for their individual rewards. One of the most popular ideas was a Grade 5/6 canteen. This has been up and running this term, with numerous students opting to select something special from the canteen for 20 stickers.

The students had a casual clothes day for a gold coin donation to fund the canteen and created an extensive wish list of items they wanted stocked.

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge

Wow! We have had another AMAZING fortnight.

Well done to those students who have been completing the Premier’s Reading Challenge from home. These students have now read a combined total of 2045 books.

Keep reading everyone.

NAIDOC WEEK

NAIDOC week will be observed at SGPS next week, due to the official NAIDOC week falling over the school holidays.

This year, NAIDOC Week is extra special because it has been 50 years since it first began! NAIDOC Week is a time when we celebrate and learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples – their culture, stories, and strength.

The theme for 2025 is “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy.” This means we are thinking about the strong young leaders of today and tomorrow, the dreams we have for the future, and the important stories and lessons passed down from Elders and ancestors.

The SRC have organised a special fundraiser for our school. Next Friday, on the Big Brain Cup Day (the last day of school), students are encouraged to come to school dressed as a teacher from Spring Gully, or a teacher in general, for a gold coin donation. Our SRC are very excited about this dress up day!

It is going to be lots of fun! Thank you
