From the Principal

It is with great pride, I share that Athol Road Primary School continues to be recognised both within our network and beyond as an exemplary school, known for achieving outstanding outcomes for students. This recognition has led to many of our dedicated staff being invited to share their expertise and good practice with other educators and school communities. Most recently, we have been asked to present and share our practice on a range of areas including:

  • our highly effective Professional Learning Community (PLC) practices, and how we build strong collaborative teams to enhance teaching and learning;
  • our outstanding learning outcomes in NAPLAN, particularly in Mathematics;
  • our inclusive education practices, with a focus on supporting neurodivergent learners;
  • our explicit approach to phonics instruction, which supports all learners through targeted intervention and extension programs.

This acknowledgement is a true credit to the collective work, professionalism, and commitment of our staff, who consistently embody our school’s core value of High Expectations and foster a collaborative culture of shared responsibility and support. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our School Council for their ongoing encouragement, guidance, and strong support of our continuous professional learning journey. We truly are a special school—one that is achieving great outcomes for every learner, every day.

Acknowledgement of Country – Student Video

A big thank you and high five to Miss Walton for her leadership and creativity in working with our Foundation students to produce a truly beautiful and meaningful Acknowledgement of Country video. This special video not only allowed our youngest learners to engage deeply with the significance of acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land, but also gave them a voice to express what this means to them personally.

The video features our Foundation students actively participating in the Acknowledgement, sharing their understanding in their own words and through visuals that reflect respect, connection, and growing cultural awareness. Their thoughtful reflections and proud voices are a powerful reminder of the importance of embedding First Nations perspectives in our everyday learning.

Below is the written Acknowledgement to Country by the students, and a link to watch their wonderful video on YouTube. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Parent Teacher Interviews and Student-Led Conferences

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held on Wednesday 30th July for Foundation to Year 2 students, and Student-Led Conferences will take place on Thursday 31st July for Year 3 to Year 6 students. Bookings will open next week via Sentral.

It is important that all parents and carers book an appointment to speak with their child’s teacher about their learning progress and overall wellbeing in Semester 1. These conversations provide a valuable opportunity to celebrate your child’s achievements, understand their learning journey, and strengthen the partnership between home and school. Interpreters will be arranged where required—please select this option when making your booking on Sentral.
