Week 3, another big week on farm that's almost been and gone.
The newly arrived excavator has been busy clearing drains, moving drains, finding leaks in irrigation systems and prepping the shade house for its move.
Tractor and vehicle inductions have been completed for new Year 10 and 11 students. Radio inductions using the new radio system have been conducted for students, admin staff and residential staff. We'll catch up with those students that weren't available in the coming weeks.
The system will improve communications across the Farm, help TO's to maintain appropriate supervision more effectively and provide a safety and emergency system when staff and or students are working or are out on the farm alone.
Pre-calving vaccinations and training in chemical applications, cattle handling and muster and move started this week at Beef and will continue until all breeders are ready for calving which commences late March.
Bob the Butcher has put the first 10 lambs and a beast for the year through the butcher shop.
Eco 1 & 2 have been cleaned, disinfected and set up for our first delivery of pigs. Mr Smart with a small crew headed to Westpork to train and inspect the 100 weaners and two sows that were collected Wednesday. Big shout out to Cunderdin Ag for helping with the supply of pre lac feed for the sows which will farrow in late March. This will be the first of 3 lots of weaners for 2025. The sows expand the education opportunities with students experiencing farrowing, processing newborn piglets, artificial insemination and managing dry sows.
Our new feeders arrived from Jackson's in SA. These feeders allow us to feed specific feed to different mobs and will reduce the workload for weekend staff and students.
Thank you to the farm staff for being actively engaged in the various induction activities and Thank you to the students for your willing participation.
