STUDENT COUNCILLORS

Another great week has gone by here at the College, with week 3 coming to an end.
This week, the Student Council spent some time in Perth at Point Walter Recreation Camp, dusting up on our leadership skills, resilience and team building. We got to Point Walter on Sunday night to get settled in and then went over to King's Park for a scenic BBQ dinner. We returned to the camp for some team games and some rest.
The next day we started off with some abseiling, a much-welcomed new skill, followed by a high ropes course which built trust between the councillors. While you were up on the course, your fate depended on the team below controlling your descent if needed. Next up was a charity bike build which was supported by Total Team Building. These bikes were then donated to children in need. We then had some time to do some planning for the upcoming year, mainly around fundraising. This day was concluded with dinner at Grill'd, some dessert at Yo-Chi and some sleep.
The last day started off with some orienteering, which tested the fitness, teamwork, and thinking on the spot skills of our council members. After this was some team building games, which required communication, trust and teamwork between the group. Straight after was a bus trip over to the Fremantle Dockers HQ in Cockburn, where we got an eye-opening talk with young-gun forward, Josh Treacy, former captain of championship-winning Perth Wildcats turned teamwork and leadership advisor, Damian Martin and Manager of Football Operations, Dale Emery, who has had sons go through the College. These talks focused on leadership, attitude and teamwork and how this applies in a high performance environment and in a general work environment. This was a definite highlight of the trip, especially for Mr. Swallow, a die-hard Freo fan. This was then followed by a tour of the team's facilities including the break room, gym and wellbeing centre where players are taken care of by the physio staff, medical staff and strapped up for a hard training session. The councillors also luckily got a good look at the team passing by on their way to leaving the facility! The councillors then piled into the bus and headed back to the College.
The Student Council would like to thank Mr. Swallow and Mrs. Barnden for organising the trip. It was very good fun and definitely helped our trust and friendship between ourselves and our leadership skills.
