Student Wellbeing Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last Monday we celebrated ‘Swell Day’ at St Kevin’s. SWELL stands for Student Wellbeing and each year we have a day where we can take the time to ‘pay attention’ to our wellbeing.

As in previous years, we had a company called Fun Fit come out and conduct sessions in different activities.  This year we had a focus on ‘learning a new skill’ and being ‘Resilient’. Many of the activities were new to students, which relied on them developing a ‘Growth Mindset’ and having a go at something new.

Students took part in the following activities:

  • Juggling: our students really enjoyed learning this circus skill and working to develop their hand / eye coordination
  • Hulu Hoops: another circus skill where many students demonstrated the ability to twirl the hoop around their hips for a length of time
  • Flower Twirling Sticks: this is a great activity where students hold a stick in each hand and complete different movements / tricks with a third stick.
  • Acrobalance: we have been doing this activity for  few years now on Swell Day and it is obvious how much our students enjoying developing different gymnastics skills. This year the students were challenged to balance in different ways with a partner.

Breakdancing: this activity was a massive ‘hit’ with all of our students. In the past we have exposed students to ‘Hip Hop’ dancing but this year we choose to give Breakdancing a go!! Our students embraced many movements made popular by Michael Jackson and other artists of the 1980’s.

The other activity was team building games organised and run by our new PE Teacher Gianni Montatlo. These games of tunnel ball, balancing bean bags on heads and working together to manipulate a parachute, were thoroughly enjoyed by all students and our staff. A very big thank you to Mr Montatlo for being part of our Swell Day 2025.

Thank you to Gabee, Eva and our staff for supporting our students on Swell Day and making it a great way to start the new school year!

Take care everyone,
