Library News
Welcome back to St Patrick’s Library for 2025!
We especially welcome our Kindergarten students who will soon visit our wonderful library for the first time.
St Patrick’s library has an extensive collection of picture books and Junior and Senior novels. Our Non Fiction collection is popular with students who enjoy exploring their world through information texts. Students also have access to thousands of digital resources through a shared Australian Catholic Education Network (ACEN). ACEN utilises an app called SORA that allows students to read ebooks, audiobooks, magazines and comics on a phone, tablet, laptop or computer.
Your child’s teacher will communicate with you regarding library days for 2025. Please ensure your child has their library bag each week and returns books on time. As reading is central to all curriculum areas it is important for your child to borrow regularly so as to develop as an independent learner.
More details will be shared regarding access to SORA and digital resources.
2025 Library Events
Our students look forward to some very exciting events each year which promote a love of reading. These include our annual Book Fair, the CBCA Book Week and our much anticipated Book Week Parade. 2025 marks the celebration of 80 years of Children’s Book Week. You may even see St Patrick’s staff dress up and join in the parade! This year's theme is ‘Book an Adventure’.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
St Patrick’s will be participating in the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) again in 2025!
The aim of the PRC is:
- To encourage a love of reading for pleasure
- To enable children to experience quality literature
Students and families will receive more information in the coming weeks regarding PRC.
Our library is a hub for other activities throughout the year. Passive Play students love to visit the library for colouring and quiet games at recess and lunch. On Fridays the library is full of the sound of our Amadeus music students. Our STEM classes often gather in the library to work on their group projects and our Early Bird readers enjoy morning reading in Terms 3 and 4 before school.
How lucky we are to have a dynamic and busy library at St Patrick’s. We look forward to a wonderful year of reading with you!
