Diverse Learn

Newman Education at St Patrick’s Sutherland 2025
At St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School, we are proud to be a Newman Selective Gifted Education School, offering a dynamic and enriched learning environment for high-achieving students. Being a Newman school means we are committed to identifying and nurturing gifted learners through targeted teaching, differentiation, and enrichment opportunities that extend beyond the standard curriculum.
One of the key features of our Newman program is the Fourth Teacher Model, where an additional teacher allows for smaller class groups and targeted instruction in English and Mathematics. This enables students to work in like-minded peer clusters, ensuring they are both challenged and supported in their learning.
Throughout the year, Newman students engage in a variety of enrichment opportunities, such as:✅ STEM investigations✅ Creative and critical thinking challenges✅ Advanced literacy and numeracy tasks✅ Cross-curricular problem-solving activities.
Our dedicated teachers model high-level skills and strategies, fostering a love of learning while enhancing students' abilities to think critically, creatively, and independently.
Within the Newman Selective Gifted Education Program schools, teachers that are trained in Gifted Education deliver an appropriately differentiated curriculum to ensure the diverse learning needs of gifted students are met in and beyond the classroom.
At Saint Patrick’s, we value authentic learning because it respects the dignity of learners and builds on their prior experience, personal interests and innate potential. It fosters critical thinking and the application of skills and knowledge in a variety of settings.
Students learn authentically when they:
- engage in work that is rigorous and challenging
- engage critically with the material being learned - both as individuals and in collaboration;
- make connections between the material being learned, and their own lives and experiences;
- share what they have learned with others;
- exercise choice as they pursue their own passions and interests;
- believe that they are capable learners and have high expectations of themselves;
- apply knowledge and skills creatively in a range of situations (Statement of Authentic Learning, SCS)
We are excited to see our Newman students thrive and look forward to celebrating their achievements throughout the year!
