NAIDOC Week

Last week, classrooms across our school celebrated NAIDOC Week! National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme was 'Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud'. The theme honours the strength of First Nations culture, with fire being a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

It was wonderful to see students participating in a range of NAIDOC Week activities, including shared reading, painting, music, crafts and storytelling in their classrooms. During physical education sessions, students were offered the opportunity to complete their cool-down and relaxation activities while listening to Indigenous lullabies. The lullabies included were "Tjitji Lullaby," "Ninganah Lullaby," and "Marringa Lullaby." Students also took part in a whole-school project through our specialist art program, learning about the history and story behind a song called 'From Little Things Big Things Grow'. Students will be creating a performance responding to this music through dance, mime and visual artworks.
