Year 12 VCE VM White Water Rafting

On Tuesday 4th June Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students had the opportunity to attend a White-Water Rafting excursion on the Yarra River. In Personal Development Skills students in Unit 3 complete areas of study in Leadership and Teamwork and the excursion provided students with the opportunity to apply their learning.

We met Kathryn, our guide, at Jumping Creek Reserve and helped with setting up equipment, completing a safety briefing and kitting up into our rafting gear. Working in pairs students had to learn to cooperate and communicate as they navigated 8 lengths of grade 1 and grade 2 rapids along the 5km stretch of the Yarra River down to Warrandyte Bridge. Students and staff had an awesome time and enjoyed applying learning outcomes outside of the classroom.

VCE VM Intergenerational Project

Year 12 VCE VM students have had the opportunity to partake in a project run through VicHealth, RMIT University and Whitehorse City Council. The project took place over the course of eight Mondays in Term 2 where members of the Year 12 VCE VM class would meet with older members of our community at Strathdon House Community Precinct. Students and older participants took part in a range of activities including gardening, arts and craft, model boat and car assembling, games and cooking.

There were many highlights of the project including pizza making, jewellery and bracelet making, Cam rolling Yahtzee, finishing the jig saw puzzle, playing Finksa, John showing off his model remote control boats and gardening works. Undoubtedly the number one highlight was the delicious treats baked by Lachie and Bev in the kitchen each week. Sweet and savoury scones, chocolate muffins and raspberry slice were all delicious!

All students should be commended on their approach to the project and the manner in which they conducted themselves and supported interactions with the older members. Well done!
