EMR CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
After the onslaught of rain that covered Victoria a couple of days prior, the EMR cross country championships were held at Yarra Glen Racecourse on a crisp winter’s day on Thursday the 13th of June. Vermont had a strong squad of approximately 45 competitors ready to give it their all. It was a fantastic day with a number of great individual and collective results with many teams and individuals being summoned to the podium to collect their hard-earned medal.
Individuals progressing to state:
Finn M placed 4th U20B 5000m, time 16:55
Will G placed 10th U20B 5000m, time 17:52
Sunday D placed 7th U20G 3000m, time 14:15
Robbie P placed 1st U16B 5000m, time 17:27
Harry A placed 2nd U16B 5000m, time 17:40
Lucas H placed 9th U16B 5000m, time 18:37
Leana B placed 8th U16G 3000m, time 14:10
Jack F placed 3rd U14B 3000m, time 11:18
Alex R placed 2nd U14G 3000m, time 13:23
Phoebe M placed 12th U14G 3000m, time 14:09
Vermont had some incredibly strong team performances on the day. The team event is based on the accumulated score of the top 3 runners per school in each age group, plus the next best placed 4th runner whose score doesn’t contribute to the total. The position a student places is the number of points that they accrue for the team. The team of 4 with the lowest score progresses through to state.
Teams progressing to state:
U16B Robbie, Harry, Lucas & Bailey
U14G Alex, Phoebe, Annika & Amelia
Team results:
1st place U16B Robbie, Harry, Lucas, Bailey, Lachlan & U14G Alex Phoebe, Annika, Amelia, Zoe, Dana, Nandini
2nd place U20B Finn, Will, Ben, Will
3rd place U20G Sunday, Samantha, Taya, Amelia & U16G Leana, Hannah, Audrey, Chloe & Maya
A very special mention to everyone in the squad who competed and achieved many personal bests on the day. Your participation and endeavour is what makes our sports program so great!

YEAR 7 ROUND ROBIN
SOCCER
Girls
Congratulations to the Year 7 Girls Soccer team for an outstanding day on the pitch last week. With three convincing wins 5-0, 5-0 and 4-0 they're going through to the next round next Term! With a strong defence we saw the opposition's ball rarely go past the halfway line and a dominating attacking group led by our Captain Alice converting the goals, they were unstoppable. Well done not only to our goal kickers, Alice (9), Emily A (1), Emily C (1), Zainab (1) and Micaela (2), but the whole team for their assistance. A huge thank you to Elodie for her coaching expertise.
Boys/Mixed
On Thursday the 6th of June the year 7 boys soccer team went to compete at the Division against Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley, and Highvale SC.
Captain: Kiah G. Vice-Captain: Sonny V
The first game was against Mount Waverley with the score being 3-0 in Vermont's favour. Javen scored two fantastic volleys early on to give Vermont the lead and also scored the finisher!
The second game saw Highvale score in the first few minutes followed by an even fight from both teams with no further scores (meaning a 1-0 win to Highvale). Whilst this was disappointing the boys kept their heads high. Knowing they could not make it to the next stage they decided to mix things up for game 3 against Glen Waverley with Centre backs playing goalkeeper (for the first time), the goalkeeper playing midfield, and players who hadn’t had much of a run taking on key roles. This brought cheers of encouragement from onlookers- especially when the “goalkeeper” (a centre back!) miraculously saved a penalty! With smiles and cheers the boys all fought hard, only allowing one goal to Glen Waverley (the ultimate winners on the day) in the first half - 1-0. The smiles and cheers continued in the second half…. as (unfortunately) did Glen Waverley’s scoring despite some ripper saves from first time goalie Campbell C, awarded player of the day.
Overall, everybody gave their best effort in all the games, and had fun. We’re all looking forward to another chance next year! Thank you to Mr Duiveman and Mr Quinn for coaching and so too to Valerio and Sherlock
POTD (Player of the Day): Campbell C
NETBALL
Year 7 Girls Netball had the opportunity to travel to Pinks Reserve in Kilsyth for their round robin. They fought hard in the cold and windy conditions, (the courts were in an open area) but were out played by some stronger teams. Both teams were ably supported by their Year 10 coaches Neiva L, Emily G, Tilly G and Bree A. Congratulations on playing together as a team and supporting each other with positive affirmations.
AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL
Well done to our Year 7 Boys AFL team, for endeavouring through some hard-fought matches. Despite a valorous attempt, we were not able to secure a victory - though we came close a number of times. Some special shout-outs include Ethan R's two excellent goals, and Joel B's ability to simply be everywhere! Congratulations on an excellent day out, boys - you've earned a well-deserved chip lunch.
BADMINTON
The JCA Table Tennis Academy had a great day out at Kilsyth Stadium. Well done to the girls' team who placed 2nd overall in a very competitive competition.
EMR FINALS
Year 8 Boys Australian Rules Football
The boys had a terrific day and played some competitive footy. Despite some key outs, the team gave themselves every chance in all of the games. Our defence was rock solid, and the boys excelled. David C and Lewis W were tireless on the ball for most of the day. Jake H marked everything that came his way. Nash G and Sam B played their wings as instructed and got plenty of footy. The team should be extremely proud of their efforts.

Junior Girls Australian Rules Football
Well done to the Year 7 and Year 8 girls who represented Vermont at the EMR finals on Monday June 17th at Elgar Park Reserve. The girls were tested against three quality opponents in Heathmont, Lilydale and Doncaster and played a high-level football. The midfield of Fiona, Molly and Charlie toiled hard all day and won plenty of the ball, Gen and Shay won lots of ruck contests, Myrto and Remi ran hard on the wings, Ella, Jade and Alex were tough in and under, Phoebe, Summer and Tahlia were strong in defence and Zara was dangerous up forward. The team should be extremely proud of their efforts.
Thanks to Archie and Will from Year 8 for assisting on the day and Mr Squire and Mr Smyth for coaching.
