Year 10 Work Experience Program

On the last week of Term 2, over 230 year 10 students completed a week of work experience placement in their local community.

This is an extremely valuable program, as it allows students the opportunity to explore career options, gives them more self-confidence, develops employability skills, independence, and in some cases, may even lead to a part time job! Our students worked in many different industries including retail, hospitality, building construction and education.

The feedback we received from local employers was very positive, explaining that our students were a great addition to their team/business, and they enjoyed showing them the ins and outs of their jobs for the week.

Here are some responses from our Year 10 students, when asked what they enjoyed most about their work experience:

“Getting to see behind the scenes of a veterinary clinic and working alongside vet nurses and vets. I also really enjoyed watching the surgeries that were performed and what goes on while the vet is operating on a patient.” – Rachel Anthony 10G, completed work experience at Berwick Clyde Vet.

“Everything! Work experience was so much fun, I wish I could go again. Also just going back to my old primary school and seeing my teachers was the best.” – Emma Zalewska 10F, completed work experience at St Michaels Primary School.

We have already heard some fantastic news that a few of our Year 10s were lucky enough to be offered a part time job or have an apprenticeship lined up for next year with their work experience employer!

Well done! 😊
