Resilience

Resilience is the ability to cope with changes and challenges in our lives. It’s not always possible to prevent stressful or adverse situations, but we can strengthen our capacity to deal with these challenges.

Resilience is our ability to cope with tough times by applying our inner strength and engaging support networks. Resilience can enable us to face difficult situations and maintain good mental health.

At Newlands we are constantly striving to build our students resilience through targeted classroom activities and lessons.

Parent information sessions

In Term 1 we held an information session for parents around online resilience building, which was facilitated by Victoria Police. In Term 3 we will repeat our online resilience session and will be holding an information session regarding building resilience in our students. The main topics that will be covered in this session will be around school engagement in learning and school refusal concerns. In Term 4 we will once again run our Foundation sessions to support our 2025 cohort in regards to building resilience with an emphasis on school readiness. Details on these planned sessions will be made through the newsletter.

Secondhand Uniform Sale

We will be holding a secondhand uniform sale on Tuesday 25th June at 3:00 on the steps outside of our old building. Follow the bridge and you will find us. All uniforms will be available for a gold coin donation. Cash only will be accepted.

Behaviour Support Plans

What is a BSP?

A behaviour support plan (BSP) is a document that addresses the behaviour of a student that requires extra support, and outlines strategies to support the student.

Who they're for:

Targeted plans can be developed for students who:

•have been diagnosed with behaviour disorders

•require additional assistance because they display challenging or disruptive behaviours

•can benefit from additional wellbeing support

BSPs may include:

•known triggers of the behaviour (noise, touch, language used)

•situations that make the behaviour more likely or cause the behaviour to occur (hunger, tiredness, pain)

•strategies to reduce or remove triggers

•strategies and supports to address situations that may trigger the behaviour

•strategies to teach the student how to meet their needs without using the behaviour of concern

•when the plan will be reviewed

•how the plan will be evaluated

Students who have been identified by their classroom teacher as requiring a Behaviour Support Plan will discuss the students needs with Sonya. Parents with identified students will be contacted and provided an opportunity to discuss and contribute to the BSP process. The student will be supported by Meagan, our Behavioural Analysist and any recommendations from reports from any allied health workers who is supporting the student will be included in the plan for implementation.
