A snapshot from the classrooms this fortnight

Kindergarten - Jacqueline Pribilovics

Over the last two weeks, Kindergarten students have been learning about  Time during our Mathematics lesson. We were investigating:

  • things that take a short or long time
  • different parts of the day (morning, afternoon and evening)
  • days of the week
  • reading o'clock time on analog and digital clocks

Our favourite part was making our own analog clocks to help us learn o'clock time.

Year 1 - Danielle McClure and Eva Clinton

This term, Year 1 has been learning all about different animals. So far, we have learnt some very tricky vocabulary like vertebrates, invertebrates, mane, amphibians and habitat. We are now putting all our information together to create an information text. We have been doing some guided drawings to go with our information texts. We can’t wait for you to come and have a look at our final products!

Year 2 - Aoife Geraghty

Year Two had a blast with everything popcorn-related this week! With our PJ Day on Friday, we decided to write instructions for the teachers on how to make popcorn for everyone. This activity fit perfectly with our current lessons on writing procedures, and we had a lot of fun! We also practised our maths skills by making and counting a tally for the movie!

Year 3 - Hannah Jory & Peter Mallos

On Friday we will gather to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This day is particularly special for our school as St Margaret Mary saw the sacred heart and was told to “Behold the hand that has loved you so much”. The students have been rehearsing as it’s Year 3’s mass to host.

Year 4 - Bella Abruzzese

In Art, Year 4 have been practising their water colouring skills by painting landscapes. This helps them understand the importance of gradient colouring and using different amounts of water to blend different colours.

Stage 3 - Anna Kelly & Laura Courtenay

Recently, all throughout St Margaret Mary’s we created Sorry Day artworks. We created hands and little pieces of artwork saying sorry. National Sorry Day is an annual event that is held on the 26th of May which leads into Reconciliation Week.  It commemorates the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children when they were forcibly separated from their families in an attempt to assimilate them into white Australian culture during the 20th century. On the 13th of February 2008 Kevin Rudd said sorry to those who lost their children. The sign of National Sorry Day is the Native Hibiscus, it is like a flower. To acknowledge National Sorry Day we learn the stories of the Stolen Generations, celebrate the Aboriginal achievements and think about what “reconciliation” REALLY means. Our slogan this year was ‘Sorry starts with me’.
