Parent and Teacher Interviews

As we move towards the end of the semester, the teachers have been busy administering mid year assessments to begin writing your child’s semester 1 school report which will be made available via Compass on Friday June 28.

The Parent Teacher Interviews which are scheduled to occur in Week 10 will be an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s areas of strength and areas for development or future goals. It is also a great opportunity to let your child’s teacher know of any changes or happenings that may have happened since the last time you touched base with the teacher.

From Tuesday June 11, you will be invited to make an online booking for the parent/teacher interviews that will take place in Week 10. Teachers will be available for interviews from Monday July 1 - Thursday July 4. On Wednesday July 3, we will offer interviews until 7pm. Compass will walk you through the booking process. Please note that you will be booking into a 10 minute time slot. Please note that if your child has two teachers, the booking will be made via the booking form for the “main” classroom teacher.

It’s vital to be well prepared to ensure the interview is a profitable experience for all involved. A good beginning is to enter the conversation with a positive attitude and willingness to listen to comments and recommendations from the teacher. The teacher is there to explain to you how your child is progressing at school. The teacher may also highlight areas your child is strongest in and areas they may need a bit more support. At this point you may like to ask how you can help your child.

Effective parent-teacher interviews take place in an atmosphere of trust, where confidentiality is ensured and parents and teachers treat each other with respect. The parent-teacher interview is an opportunity for parents to get an objective insight into the learning approach their child adopts at school, how their child responds in social situations and how they are progressing. Interviews also bring across the message to children that the teacher and their parents are working together to ensure the best outcomes for them.
