School Newsletter Term 2

Dear Parents and Carers

Feast of the Sacred Heart, Friday 7/6/24.

Tomorrow we celebrate the Feast of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, one of the most widely practised and well-known devotions in the Roman Catholic Church. It takes the physical heart of Jesus as representation of His Divine love for humanity.

The Feast of the Sacred Heart has been in the Roman Catholic Liturgical calendar since 1856, and is always celebrated 19 days after Pentecost Sunday and always falls on a Friday. This feast day is especially meaningful for our school as we are dedicated to St Margaret Mary who was chosen by Christ to arouse the Church to a realisation of the love of God symbolised by the heart of Jesus.

Our celebration starts at 9.00 am and will be led by Year 3, everyone is warmly invited to join.

School pick up - Kiss & Go

I am reaching out to address some urgent concerns regarding traffic management on Centennial Avenue, particularly concerning our Kiss & Go service.

As mentioned earlier this term, we have received numerous complaints from residents in Centennial Avenue who are experiencing significant difficulty exiting their street due to congestion caused by parents waiting to join our Kiss & Go line. Despite previous reminders, this issue persists. I have also witnessed cars parking in the designated no-parking area across the school driveway, creating additional hazards for students crossing at the island.

Increased traffic, particularly cars turning right out of Centennial Avenue during school  pick-up time, is definitely adding to the congestion on Clovelly Road. Unfortunately our neighbours' concerns have now prompted intervention from Randwick Council parking rangers who will be around to assess the current situation.

It's crucial that we prioritise the safety of our students and show consideration for our neighbours. Therefore, I urge all parents to adhere strictly to the following guidelines:

  1. When using the Kiss & Go service, please enter the designated set-down area from Clovelly Road.
  2. If there is no space available in the set-down area, please refrain from using Centennial Avenue as an alternative waiting area. Instead, drive around the block until space becomes available.
  3. Under no circumstances should vehicles be parked in the no-parking area across the school driveway. This area must remain clear to ensure the safety of students crossing.

While the majority of parents utilising the Kiss & Go service are adhering to regulations and being considerate, I once again stress the need to prioritise the safety of our students and the wider community.

Maintaining access to the Kiss & Go service is crucial, especially considering the existing parking challenges around the school. Losing this service would further exacerbate parking difficulties for everyone..

Your cooperation in following these guidelines is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

Winter Uniforms

Ensuring students are wearing the correct school uniform isn't just about looks—it's about building a strong sense of togetherness, discipline, and school pride. The uniform isn't just a fashion statement; it's a visual representation of who we are as a school and what we stand for. As I spoke to our Year 5 and 6 students yesterday I couldn’t help but notice the amount of students wearing incorrect items of uniform, in particular, shorts and tracksuit pants

When everyone follows the uniform code, we ensure nobody feels left out or different and our focus can remain on our core bussiness of learning. Keeping our uniforms well presented also helps us prepare for the future, where following dress codes is often expected in professional settings.

For the remainder of this term, the teachers will be focussing on the importance of wearing the correct uniform with constant reminders to students who are not following the code. If for any reason your child is not able to wear their full winter uniform, please provide a note to their teacher explaining why. It's a small thing that makes a big difference in promoting pride in our school community!

I refer you to the uniform requirements  in our current Parent Handbook

Uniform Requirements

It is a requirement for all students to adhere to the following:

  • StMM school bag which can be sourced from Harlequin School Bags or purchased from the office.
  • If t-shirts or other undergarments are worn beneath the school uniform, they must not be visible or protruding from the uniform.
  • There is a second hand uniform shop onsite, which operates every Monday from 8:30am. If you cannot make this time you can email your needs and we will forward them on.
  • Students are expected to wear a school hat at all times when outside. The school hat is worn all year.  Stage 3 students are permitted to wear their school cap. We have a ‘No hat, No play’ policy.
  • It is a tradition that Year 6 students can wear the dedicated Year 6 Jersey at school.
  • It is essential that all articles of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
  • Uniform pieces must be sourced from Yeronga School Uniforms, our designated supplier only. This includes all shorts and track pants worn on Wednesday and Thursday, our designated sports days.

Information and links to our suppliers can always be found under the "Useful Information" tab in each newsletter.
