School Improvements

Our building works will continue over the school holidays. The painters will take the opportunity to paint the inside windows of the Speight & Wales Street buildings. Some asphalt area near the back entrance of the Wales Street building will also be completed.

Our ramp compliance works will also commence. They will be demolishing & rebuilding the ramp at the back entrance to the Wales Street building over the holidays. They will then work their way around the school and redo all our ramps, one at a time.

The boys hall toilets are having a complete renovation, while the girls toilets will be getting a freshen up.

The Speight Street toilet partitions are being remodelled to increase the privacy for our students. This is something that our JSC had raised as a concern so we are very excited that it is finally happening.

Rest, Recharge, Recover

A term of school can be exhausting for our students (and families). We know the mental load that is put on our students academically, emotionally and socially. It is so important that over the school holidays, we give our students time to rest and revive to come back refreshed for another term of learning.

Research has shown that holidays benefit adults by boosting their physical, emotional and mental health. It improves our stress levels, energy levels, sleep quality and emotional stability. All of this is true with children. As the term has progressed, you may have noticed your child’s energy levels decreased, possible sickness and emotional stability and this is all common when feeling tired and rundown.

Inside a school term, students not only attend school, but they also complete many extra curricular activities including sports, music lessons, art, scouts etc, and these all have an impact on their mental health and wellbeing. Our students are great at balancing all of these, however they need time over the holidays to rest, recharge and recover.

The power of the reset and recharge, allows our students to come back to school energised. We see a more productive student in the classroom, an improved mindset and higher energy levels.

I would like to thank all members of the WSPS community - students, staff and parents and carers for your support of our wonderful school this term. I am truly honoured and excited to step into the substantive role of Principal of Wales Street primary School. I look forward to continuing to promote a sense of wellbeing and excellence for our staff and students and collaborate with the school community to further build upon the wonderful foundation that makes our school so special.

I look forward to seeing everyone back after a winter holiday recharge on Monday 15th July.

Safe holidays.
