Holiday Speed Reading

Some templates have been linked that your children can use to practice fluency. Students can use the speed read mat with the goal to read 10 words in 30 seconds. Students can then build to try and read 20 words in 30 seconds.  Research has shown that a fluency rate of 20 words correct in 30 seconds is more likely to result in the skill being maintained in the long term memory. If after a few days your child is still having difficulty with the 10 words in 30 seconds, lower the amount of words. Allow them to achieve less words and gradually build to the 10/20 in 30 seconds.
