K-6 Term 3 Maths Homework Fluency

In 2023, St Patrick's reviewed and simplified our homework policy to ensure educationally beneficial and meets the well-being and realistic expectations of students, teachers, parents and caregivers. Our policy highlights the importance of daily reading and number practise. This practise is to further support and develop key number skills which your child has been explicitly taught at school. Please see an exert of St Patrick's Homework Policy below for each grade's homework expectations.

Next term, each grade will have a fluency goal sheet embedded as part of their Term 3 homework activities. This fluency goal sheet will identifies specific number facts which your child has been taught this year. Your child is encouraged to practise this numeracy goal for 5-10 minutes each day. This practise is to be quick and simple allowing your child to develop procedural fluency and automaticity of key number facts within their area of need.

We appreciate that some families and students enjoy having access to additional online resources such as Maths Online or Mathletics tasks. As a school, we pay for students subscriptions for either Maths Online or Mathletics and will continue to offer access to these online tasks as optional homework activities. Please note, we only pay for subscriptions to these two websites and any other websites which your child may choose to use at home is not subsidised by the school.

Further communication regarding your child's fluency goal will be shared by classroom teachers early in Term 3 as well as communicated in our newsletter.

Holiday Maths Fun!

The school holidays are a perfect time for students to engage with numeracy in the 'real world'.

If you happen to complete any activities that involve numeracy skills please feel free to email some photos to use so we can share your child's awesome work on our social media or in our newsletter.

Kind regards,
