Scholastic Book Fair

Wednesday 14 - Friday 16 August 2024

Our Scholastic Book Fair will take place in Term 3 Week 4. The much anticipated Book Fair is a chance for students to nurture their love of reading and purchase books to support our school. This is a very popular event with 30% of all purchases going towards new books for the library and classroom resources. A very positive outcome of the 2023 Book Fair has been the expansion of our graphic novel collection. Graphic novels are similar to comic books but they have a more complex plot and use art to tell a story. They can be a great resource for reluctant readers. There is high demand for this genre of books! We continue to expand our collection each week thanks to the generosity of the St Patrick’s community. More details to follow on Compass.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Did you know that if your child has completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) for seven years between Year 3 and Year 10 they receive a PRC medal to recognise 7 years of independent reading? We have many students who are on the path to receive this prestigious award!

Our K-2 students and their teachers have been busy reading their PRC books in class. K-2 students will be registered by St Patrick’s for the PRC and will receive their certificates in Term 4. Congratulations to the many students in Years 3-6 who are completing the Challenge independently!  When your child (Years 3-6) has completed the Challenge please email engage.01908@sydstu.catholic.edu.au  with your child’s full name and class. All Reading Logs need to be entered by Friday 16 August.

CBCA Book Week

The Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week is a highlight on the St Patrick’s calendar! Our K-2 students will experience a visit from author Jaqueline Harvey. Illustrator Nathaniel Eckstrom will visit our Stage 2 students and Stage 3 will engage with the very popular author Tristan Bancks via Zoom. Thank you to our English coordinators Mrs Hill and Mrs Gill for organising these amazing opportunities for St Patrick’s students.

The theme of Book Week is Reading is Magic. Can you guess what the staff of St Patrick’s will dress up as this year?
