Year 9 & 10 3D Art

This semester's Year 9 & 10 3D Art students undertook a recycled material sculpture project, inspired by Joshua Yeldam's owl-themed artwork. Joshua Yeldam is an Australian artist renowned for his deep appreciation of nature and his ability to merge myths, imagination, and real-life experiences in his art. His use of symbols and stories creates a journey of self-exploration, connecting diverse cultures, philosophies, and religions from both the East and the West. Yeldam's distinctive style, which blends painting, moving sculptures, music, carved paper, and photography, served as the perfect inspiration for the students' creative process.

In this project, Isla Banks drew from her own profound connection to the natural environment.  Isla used a variety of materials to bring her vision to life.  Recycled cardboard provided a sustainable base for her form, while wood chips added texture and an organic feel. Laser-cut timber and brass cogs introduced intricate details and mechanical elements, symbolising the interplay between nature and human ingenuity. Budding Elder twigs and a natural-edged timber base enhanced the sculpture's earthy aesthetic. Laser-cut icypole sticks allowed Isla to strengthen her form and coffee-dyed book pages added a unique, aged texture.  This thoughtful selection of materials not only reflected the environmental theme but also encouraged students to experiment with different techniques and mediums, resulting in many richly layered and evocative pieces of art.
