Dear Parents and Carers,

Term Three has well and truly started - it feels as though I have never been away. I am sure you will join me in thanking Mrs Gai Melville who was Acting Principal in my absence. I had a wonderful holiday and am now refreshed and ready for the next two terms.

Feast of the Assumption

Next Thursday is an important day of the year for Catholics, being the feast of the assumption. Assumption Day commemorates the belief that when Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, died, her body was "assumed" into heaven to be reunited with her soul, instead of going through the natural process of physical decay upon death.

Years 3-6 will attend a combined Schools Assumption Mass at James Sheahan at 10am. A note about this event has been sent out on Compass. Year 6 stay at James Sheahan for their Year 6 Retreat from 11am-2:30pm.

Saint Mary of the Cross

Thursday 8th August is the Feast of day of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Mary

is the first Australian to be canonised as a saint.  Along with Fr Julian Tenison Woods, Mary opened a school in a disused stable in Penola, South Australia. Her vision was to provide education for underprivileged children. Many other women came to join her there, and Mary and Julian founded Australia's first religious order: the Sisters of St Joseph. They were responsible for the beginning of Catholic Education in Australia.

Mary and the Sisters were committed to serving the poor – to going to where the need was and living amongst those in need. This took Mary all over Australia to many rural areas.

Mary was remarkable as a strong female leader in 19th century Australia. Education in this country is what it is today thanks to her dedication and determination.

Book Fair

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Cath Garnan for organising the Book Fair. This was a great way to encourage a love of reading. Thank you to all the parents and students who supported the fair.

School Incursion Feedback

As Stage 2 learn about our universe in Science, last Tuesday, Years 3 and 4 had an incursion in the hall delivered by Starr's Planetarium. All the students were engaged in their learning and enjoyed this experience. After the incursion, I received an email from the presenter, and I can tell you I was a very proud principal. Please read the copy of the email below to see why.

It was a pleasure visiting your school. Your students were great. They were engaged, respectful, and well-behaved. They asked some excellent questions, and I hope I     have inspired them to learn more about our universe. You and your staff should be very proud of them.

Well done years 3 and 4
