The Library in Term 3
This term is the most eventful for the library! We will celebrate Children’s Book Week from Monday 19th August until Friday 23rd August, but the excitement begins before then!
Book Fair
We will kick off our celebrations a couple of weeks before with our Scholastic Book Fair. Beginning on Friday 9th August, classes will be able to peruse the selections of books. The Fair will be open before and after school the following week (Mon 12th until Thurs 15th). By supporting this fair, you will be supporting the school as we will be able to stock the library with new releases and popular titles, so please come along and do some (very) early Christmas shopping for your kids!
Book Week
Book Week will be taking place in Week 6, and on Monday 19th of August we will be having our annual Book Week Parade, where the children come dressed as their favourite Book Character. Parents are welcome to come and see their amazing costumes.
We are also lucky enough to have some special events occurring during Book Week this year. The Preps – Year 3s will be attending a special performance at Wheelers Hill Public Library based on this year’s theme ‘Reading is Magic’. The Year 4-6s will have the opportunity to meet and listen to debut author Ross Curnow speak on his new book ‘Oscar vs The Grand Old Dude Named York’. Ross will have copies for sale so children can get them signed, or you can get your hands on a copy after 1st August at your favourite book shop and bring it along to be signed by the author!
Premiers Reading Challenge
Please keep reading for the Premiers Reading Challenge! Just under 50% of the school have completed the challenge, and it would be AMAZING if everyone completed. Remember to read 30 books (P-2) or 15 books (3-6) to complete the challenge. Log your reading progress on https://vprc.eduweb.vic.gov.au/home
The challenge finishes on the 6th of September, so you have just over a month to complete it! Remember to only log books you have read this year (not previous years!)
Some classes are very close to finishing, and there may be a special prize for the class who finishes the most books.
If you have any questions, please ask Miss Emily or your classroom teacher.
