Grade 3-6:
Inquisitive Minds
This term we are focusing on the Olympics. In week 1 we focused on the history of the Olympics, how they began in Greece as a religious festival through to how they evolved into the games we know today.
In Week 2 students were asked to research an Australian athlete competing in the Paris 2024 games. They prepared a presentation on Google Slides including the athletes basic information (age, sport, where they were born, past Olympics), how their sport is played and what sort of chance the athlete has for a medal at the Olympics.
We had athletes chosen from a huge variety of sports. It was really pleasing to see that the day after the Australian Flag bearers were chosen for the opening ceremony two of the boys told us their athlete Eddie Ockenden had been chosen and how excited they were for him.
The students then finished by presenting their slides to the group.
Reading/Writing:
Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 have had an exciting start to Term 3 in 2024. Students have enjoyed reading weekly mentor texts in the classroom and have been able to work through a variety of activities on these mentor texts. Students have enjoyed reading “Why I Love Australia”, “Suri’s Wall, and “The Treasure Box.” Students have enjoyed learning about themes, character analysis, predictions, book reviews, book summaries, text to text connections, text to self connections and text to world connections.

Maths:
Grades 3-6 have continued working on their classes Maths Talent Quest (MTQ) during the past few weeks and have been able to complete them. The Grade 3/4A class, Grade 4/5A class and the Grade 5/6A class have been having lots of fun working on their Maths projects. The Grade 3-6 students should be extremely proud of how hard they have been working during this project, as the finished projects have turned out really nicely. It has been great to see all students participate in their class project and share their own ideas and thoughts.
