Senior Formal

The McClelland College Senior Formal was an eagerly anticipated event that took place on Friday 21st June at The Sandhurst Club. Students dressed to impress and represented the college impeccably on what was a fantastic night.  All in attendance enjoyed an evening of socialising and dancing, with a photobooth and Formal photographer available to capture the memories.  A special mention to the amazing lolly station that provided students with plenty of energy to burn off on the dancefloor.

Future Policy Pitch

On Friday 7th June, our School Captains were invited to participate in a Shark Tank style event called the ‘Future Policy Pitch’ where our captains were required to pitch a plan for community change to community leaders.  Organised by State Member for Frankston Paul Edbrooke MP, the event is an annual occurrence on the calendar, providing all high schools in the Frankston electorate the opportunity to put forward a team.  This time around, only McClelland and Frankston High School participated in the event, meaning that both schools had a good chance for their projects to be implemented by the panel, which consisted of Paul Edbrooke, Federal Member for Dunkley Jodie Belyea MP and Frankston City Council Councillor Sue Baker.  For their pitch, McClelland Captains Sarah Maguire, Regan Watene, Lily Hosking and Sienna Robinson outlined their plan for a Youth Employment Hub to be established in Frankston, whose aim was to provide skills to young people to ease their transition into employment.  The day was an overwhelming success, with the McClelland team claiming the Runners Up certificate for the day.  Well done to all of our Captains for their amazing work on the day!

Model UN

On Wednesday the 29th of May, 16 VCE  Students attended a Model United Nations Conference at Monash University, Clayton. McClelland Students represented Botswana, Canada, Guatemala and Norway. Students modelled a UN General Assembly, debating the topic: ‘Hear My Voice: Recognising the Rights of Indigenous Peoples’. Designed for high-ability students in English, Debating, Philosophy and Legal Studies, participating students were separated into teams of 3-4 and assigned a Country.  As delegates to the General Assembly, the students' job before the conference is to research the country they have been allocated and its position on the topic. Each team then presented a 2.5-minute Position Statement for their country, informed by their research before the conference. Students then model the process of decision-making and political leadership / alliances that the United Nations take in their own assemblies. By the end of the conference, students came to agreements with other countries regarding amendments to the draft resolution. Overall, students enjoyed the day. Thank you to the involved students, Monash University and teachers Laura White and Charlotte Parramore for making the day possible.

Fit 2 Drive

Today, our Year 11 students participated in the Fit2Drive program, focusing on safe driving habits. The day was filled with activities and presentations on topics like risk assessment, decision-making, and the impact of peer pressure on driving.

Students engaged in interactive workshops, learning about the dangers of distractions and impaired driving. They also gained valuable insights into the importance of seatbelt use and the consequences of driving under the influence.

We commend our Year 11 students for their enthusiastic participation and thank the Fit2Drive team for delivering such an impactful program. The skills and knowledge gained today will help our students become safer drivers.

Staff vs Student Volleyball

The final Thursday of the term saw the all-conquering Class of 2024 up against an energised teaching team.  Staring down the barrel of an 8-0 start to the year, the staff rallied to ensure that this would be a tight contest.  From the power serving of Mr L and Ms Neo, to the one two punch combination of brother sister team Mr and Ms Hemsley, to the acts of desperation from Mr Gauci and Mr Kuhn, to the towering behemoth at the net which was Mr Blight, a win for the staff was never in doubt.  Despite a strong rally from the students in the third set led by the unflappable Alex Dimic and Kirralea Goodall, as well as some mid-court dominance by Taliah Black and Luke McMahon, the staff prevailed 2-1 to tighten up at Staff vs Student contest at 7-1 for the year.  The comeback is on!
