Year 4-6 Swimming Carnival

With Adelaide in the midst of a heat wave, the Norwood Pool was the place to be on Tuesday.

Loreto’s Year 4, 5 and 6 classes all headed down to the pool in the morning, decked out in their house colours. We had a record number of competitors and events this year, as interest in swimming continues to grow. Our house captains did a terrific job decorating their marquees and we had a number of family members watching which helped create a wonderful atmosphere.

Leaderboard

Mulhall put on a dominant display in the pool, with all year levels contributing strongly.

Spirit Cup

The Spirit Cup was awarded to Barry. One of our Year 5 students Esther, who is returning to sport this term after a layoff, managed to clinch 3rd place for McGrath in her breaststroke event. Recognising that this was a significant moment for Esther, it was great to see a group of girls from Barry rush over to congratulate her as she got out of the pool. Plenty of hugs and high fives, sharing in Esther’s moment.

Queen of the Pool

Lucy Mackay from Mulhall had an outstanding day, winning five individual events plus being part of two winning relay teams. Incredible!

Many thanks to our staff for running the event, to our Year 9 student leaders for helping with the management, to the Norwood Pool lifeguards, to the family members who came along to enjoy the day and well done to all the swimmers who hopped in the pool and had a go!

On the board!

Well done to the Loreto Diggers volleyball team who picked up their first win last Friday against Scotch.

The team has been winning lots of points and several sets through the term but hadn’t managed that breakthrough win.

A tight first set ebbed and flowed on Friday, with Scotch winning 25-23. Loreto fought back in the second set, prevailing 25-17 to set up a third set decider. The lead changed several times in a tense finale. Holly and Ava both won some key points on serve, Eva managed some brilliant returns, Gazelle kept several points alive with desperate lunges and Chelsea’s serves were unplayable. The girls held their nerve and ran out winners 25-23.

Well done also to Ms Zappia’s Loreto Swish basketball team who made it three wins on the trot after a 15-point victory over St Aloysius this week.

Commiserations to our Sub Junior 1 netball team who went down in their knockout semi final. The girls battled hard in hot conditions and were down to none on the bench after a couple of unfortunate injuries. Hopefully Indea and Grace are back running around soon! Well done to coach Chetine and to the girls on a great season.

Student Achievements

Well done to Eliza Marshall and Maddison Graves who won the Orange Ball competition for their Loreto summer tennis team. Both received their medals this week at the Rostrevor Tennis Club presentations. Eliza also received a special award for winning 88% of her singles matches over the season.

Well done to Evie Holland who picked up medals in the 800m and the shot put at her Little Athletics competition over the weekend.

Congratulations to Lucy Diestel-Feddersen who came 1st in musical theatre and 3rd in jazz at the Talent Tribe Dance Festival over the weekend.

Alyssa Reed (Contax, Sub Junior 2) and Alexandra Holland (Matrics, Sub Junior 3) won premierships in the summer netball season.
