The Importance of Family, Sisterhood and Community
This last week has reminded me (and I am sure it has for you, too) of the importance of family and community. As a leader of a girls’ school and as a woman, this last week has also reminded me of the importance of the sisterhood.
It was once said, “…..a strong woman stands up for herself. A stronger woman stands up for everybody else”. This week the students of Loreto College Marryatville have come together to celebrate, remember, and grieve for two members of our community. The students have demonstrated the most amazing care, love, and support towards each other. They have displayed the best characteristics of this community, of what it means to be a Loreto girl, they have displayed the Loreto sisterhood.
The sisterhood, the group of women that we connect with on a deeper level. With women we share our values with, and we share our dreams with. The sisterhood is powerful! We lift each other up, we lean on each other, challenge each other – this bond is both special and unique. This bond is palatable.
Whilst I acknowledge that I am still very new to this community, I can sincerely appreciate and feel how special the Loreto Marryatville community is. I am in awe of the warmth, care and the bond shown by this community towards the students, the staff and our two special families.
The process of grief is not linear. In the days, weeks, months to come, please go gently. Please continue to look after yourself and each other.
