Literacy

We love books and have been reading LOTS of stories. Some of our favourite books are the Cranky Bear series by Nick Bland. In writing we have been creating sentences using these books. We are learning to expand our sentences by adding extra information. Our sentences have to make sense, contain who, what and where. Here are some samples of our writing about The Very Brave Bear:

Numeracy

Everyday we practise our number skills. We are getting really good at counting to 100 by ones, and skip counting by 10s, 5s and 2s. This week we have been playing lots of games using our friends of tens knowledge to develop our math fluency. Some of these games include 'Making Tens Buttons', 'Bears on a Bus', and 'Shake and Spill'. During these lessons we have been using math manipulatives (buttons, bears and counters) to give us a hands-on way to explore and learn. We use the concrete materials to help to record our problem solving in different ways, usually by drawing a diagram or writing a number sentence. Our favourite game has been 'Tens Go Fish'.
