Year 10
The Year 10 Pre-ATAR class attended the Harry Perkins Research Institute in Nedlands.
Students worked with scientists and university graduate specialists. In the purpose-built teaching laboratory, students used research-grade equipment and the latest technology to consolidate learning in a practical, hands-on way. Guided by the Perkins researchers, students learnt about how CRISPR and bioinformatics is applied. Students used tools to develop improved treatments and diagnostic tests for medical conditions. Students learnt how to use technical tools like the micro-pipette and mini-centrifuge to extract DNA from cells. The unique experiences allowed students to apply their knowledge and observe and apply STEM in a possible career pathway. Students really enjoyed the day.
The start of Term Two presents families with students’ transition from summer to winter uniforms. Of course, Mother Nature does not consider this change when we are gifted beautiful warmer weather; it is important that we exercise flexibility at this time. Whilst there are uniform transition teething issues, all matters must be resolved before the College’s April 30 Photo Day. Thank you to all families for your support during this transition.
On Tuesday, Mrs Thomas’ Year 10 Science class went to the Harry Perkins Institute. Many students were eager to wear their newly acquired blazers and they certainly were dressed to represent the College with aplomb.

No doubt, students will approach these events with a myriad of emotions. In some cases, parents may be concerned about the various emotions that their child may be experiencing. If this is the case, it is vital that parents and guardians utilise a proactive approach when communicating with the College. Furthermore, I remind parents and guardians that the College has provisioned access to ParentTV, a platform which provides them with invaluable support.
No doubt, students and their families will be reflecting on recently published Progress Reports and focusing their minds towards upcoming examinations. Teachers should always be students’ first port of call to assist with learning questions. Students are challenged to proactively take advantage of the following opportunities that aim to support their learning:
